About

Hey there!

My name is Aoife (pronounced ee-fah) AKA That Irish Dietitian. My mission is to empower you with the skills to achieve food & body liberation. This means no more stressing about food, your body and most of all – diets!

About me

When I graduated, I knew that traditional approaches to ‘treating’ weight did not sit well with me. I understood the science and how to educate but like, how is knowing how chocolate is metabolised going to make me eat any less of it?! I knew from the start that I needed to meet my clients somewhere in the middle and I started listening to the day-to-day lives of the beautiful people that came to the clinics. I love working with and supporting my clients. I specialise in working with people to truly heal their relationship with food and their body. This is you if you relate to any of the following –

  • Feel like you can’t trust yourself around food
  • Feel out-of-control around food
  • Binge eating
  • If you feel pressure to lose weight but you’re exhausted from all the diets and slimming groups
  • If you have a new health diagnosis e.g. diabetes and you’re wondering how you can improve your health – without entering an endless cycle of restricting and bingeing
  • If you’ve previously had weight loss surgery and you’re worried about your eating patterns
  • You just want to be released from eating patterns such as dieting, restricting foods and comfort eating to name a few
  • You want to learn Intuitive Eating

If you relate to any of these then you are in the right place. People need to be treated as the solution and not the problem. The key to empowering people is through unlocking that inner potential. The information provided here at the Centre for Liberating Nutrition is curated specifically to tap into your bodies complex systems for behaviour change and food regulation.

Why you can put your trust in me:

I am dedicated to life-long learning and I have completed various training such as Intuitive Eating training with the London Centre for Intuitive Eating. Add in the other courses and books I am non-stop topping up my knowledge with ensure I provide you with a top-quality service in a way that’s engaging and promotes real change.

I have enjoyed working with an extensive variety of clients in the National Health service and in private practice. My experience includes, but is not limited to, the following areas:

I believe

Your body or eating habits do not define your worth!

There are no ‘good’ or ‘bad’ foods, bodies or any way to live for that matter!

Choosing what to eat doesn’t have to cause anxiety, shame, guilt or upset feelings. It can be EFFORTLESS.

You can achieve food and body liberation!

Have you ever found yourself thinking that there must be another way..

That eating shouldn’t be so difficult!

You are right. And there is another way.

Let’s hang out

Nutrition Liberation is my passion – but what on earth does that mean?

I’ve been there, I’ve struggled with my body and tried eccentric diets. This was when I was in the grips of peer pressure and the absolute awful influence of the extremely underweight and dangerously undernourished ‘heroin-chic’ body ideal of the noughties. When I had my gorgeous child I developed stretch marks – (I called them tiger marks at the time to help me! Now I don’t think of them much, they are a part of me and my story). People commented on my weight through my pregnancy journey – whether I had gained or lost weight, as if I didn’t have enough on my plate growing and raising an entire human being?! All these factors plus more influenced my personal food and nutrition journey. During my years working in the National Health Service I frequently saw people who felt there was something wrong with them, that they were the problem. I saw many clients with massive hearts and cared for everyone around them – often finding they had limited time to care for themselves. This strengthened my belief that a simple ‘eat less, move more’ – no matter how jazzed up it was, was not effective. I started to really listen to my clients and instead of rushing to a solution, we focussed on the real day-to-day living taking a holistic approach. I always treat my clients as humans first.

I never used to see myself as thin or having ‘thin privilege’ because my body type didn’t fit the impossible beauty standards I tried to mould it into. Body image issues and food troubles come in all body types, genders, ages, abilities, sexualities and cultures. I am an able-bodied white woman with thin privilege and I strive to continuously learn how best to work with people of various identities – first and foremost by listening and learning from those who hold the marginalised identities themselves! I value transparency in my work. I put every effort in making my practice as inclusive as possible. I welcome any and all feedback to make Centre for Liberating Nutrition more inclusive. However, if you would feel more comfortable speaking with a dietitian with similar identities to you, I would be more than happy to direct you to a dietitian who you may feel more comfortable working with.

I have a fiery passion for utilising any skills to empower people from a food and body perspective. I hope to create a community full of empowered people that I am proud to be a part of.

The skills I’ve gained through my own food liberation journey have been invaluable. Especially because of the impact my body and food liberation journey has had on my other areas in life which was something I didn’t expect. It has changed my work, my relationships and how I raise my beautiful growing boy. I can honestly say it’s led to a much richer, more fulfilling experience. I want to share this with you, with as many of you as possible!
